Donkey population in Pakistan sees significant rise: official report

Islamabad: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released its annual livestock report, revealing a notable increase in the population of various animals — particularly donkeys.

According to the report, the donkey population grew by 109,000, bringing the total to 6.047 million. Buffaloes increased by 1.378 million, reaching 47.688 million. Sheep numbers rose by 388,000 to 33.119 million. Goats saw an increase of 2.358 million, totalling 89.393 million. Camels increased by 14,000 to 1.177 million. Horses now number 383,000, while mules have risen by 3,000 to 227,000.

Additionally, the total cattle population grew by 2.171 million, reaching 59.711 million nationwide.

The report highlights the steady growth in Pakistan’s livestock sector, which plays a crucial role in the country’s rural economy and agricultural sustainability.
